Welcome to our Year 7 class page. Our teacher is Mrs Henry and our classroom assistant is Miss Mullan.  We hope you enjoy us sharing with you some of the things we get up to this year.

We learned how to introduce ourselves in Irish for St Patrick’s Day.

Happy St. Patrick's Day form Year 7. We learned how to introduce ourselves in Irish. Article 31 states that every child has the right to relax, play and take part in a wide range of cultural and artistic activities.

As a celebration of International Women's Day the pupils of Year 7 identified the inspirational female figures in their lives. Article 2 states that the convention applies to every child without discrimination.

📚Year 7 pupils had lots of fun as they 'Took the Stage' to perform a recital of an extract from their favourite books on World Book Day 2021.📚 They were also found reading in some weird and wonderful places as well as designing their own autobiography covers. Article 29 states that education must develop children's personalities, talents and abilities.

World Maths Day 2021 saw our Year 7s searching for Maths in and around their homes as well as solving 'The Mystery of the missing football kits'. 

🍌Fairtrade Fortnight 2021🍌 Year 7 explored the story of Fairtrade footballs amd designes their own Fairtrade Football kits and made 3D models of football pitches. Article 32 states Governments must protect children from economic exploration and work that is dangerous or might harm their health, development or education.

Pupils from Year 7 created Sacred Spaces in their homes for Lent. Somewhere to reflect, pray and meditate.

Well-being Wednesday gives us a little time to be in the present. We enjoyed our Mindful breathing.

Enjoying National Fitness Day.

Year 7 enjoyed participating in outdoor activities to celebrate 'National Fitness Day'. Exercise is a great way to keep ourselves fit and healthy. 

 

Article 24 of the UNCRC states ' All children have the right to the best health possible and to information that will help you stay well.'

A massive thank you to Woodland Furniture and Laura Dallat for generously gifting us hand sanitisiser stations and sanitiser for each classroom. Another huge thank you to ASDA and Orla Dallat for their generous donation of antibacterial wipes to St. Columba's. Your kindness means so much during Covid-19. 

 

Article 24 states 'Every child has the right to the best possible health. Governments must provide good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food, and a clean environment and education on health and well-being so that children can stay healthy.'

Action Mental Health Worshop

Our Year 7 pupils took part in an 'Action Mental Health' talk today addressing 'The Five Ways to Wellbeing'. Thanks to Colette for delivering such a wonderful and informative workshop.

develop your personality and abilities as much as possible and encourages you to respect other people’s rights and values and to respect the environment.'

National Poetry Day

Year 7 celebrated 'National Poetry Day' in style by reciting together the wonderful poem 'The Sleepy Giant' by Charles E. Carryl. 

 

Article 31 of the UNCRC states 'You have the right to play and relax by doing things like sports, music and drama.'

Maths Week Ireland

To celebrate 'Maths Week 2020' Year 7 took part in a range of activities that helped to develop their mathematical thinking and reasoning. 

 

Article 29 of the UNCRC states 'Education should develop your personality, talents, mental and physical abilities.'

Saying the Rosary together in the month of October.

The month of October is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary. Year 7 have been saying the Rosary together in class. Mary Mother of God, Pray for us.

 

Article 30 states 'Children have the right to use their own language, culture and religion.'

Police Visit to St. Columba's

Paul, our PSNI Schools' Liaison Officer visited our classrooms this week to talk about staying safe, bullying and inline safety. Thanks to Paul for the wonderful tips.

Article 19 states, 'Governments must do all they can to ensure that children are protected from all forms of violence, abuse, neglect and bad treatment'.

Drawing God Day

We celebrated 'Drawing God Day' is St. Columba's by creating beautiful drawings to represent how we see God in our lives. 

 

Article 14 states, 'Every child has the right to think and believe what they choose and also to practise their religion'.

Anti-Bullying Week 2020

We celebrated 'Anti-Bullying Week 2020' with a wide range of fun activities on this year's theme 'United Against Bullying'. We got off to a great start with Odd Socks Day to remind us of what makes us different, what makes us all unique. 

 

Article 2: The Convention applies to every child without discrimination, whatever their ethnicity, gender, religion, language, abilities or any other status, whatever they think or say or whatever their family background. 

 

Article 12: Every child has the right to express their views, feelings and wishes in all matters affecting them, and to have their views considered and taken seriously.

World Children's Day

The pupils in St. Columba's had a fantastic day celebrating 'World Children's Day'. During our virtual assembly members of our Rights Respecting Committee informed all the classes of a treat. Year 7 voted and decided they wanted an extra PE session as their treat. #rightsrespectingschools #goingforgold

Mass for St. Columba

Bishop McKeown celebrated Mass via webcam at Long Tower Church, Derry to mark the year-long celebrations of the birth of St. Columba. Year 7 joined in to watch and participate in the Mass dedicated to the Patron Saint of our school. #stcolumba1500
