Our teacher is Miss Rafferty and our classroom assistants are Miss McFlynn and Mr McLaughlin. This page will keep you updated on everything we get up to this year.
๐๐ฆ Caterpillar to Butterfly ๐๐ฆ
We took wonderful care of a delivery of tiny caterpillars and watched them change and grow into the most beautiful ‘Painted Lady’ butterflies. When they were fully grown, we released them! We hope they enjoy spending time in their new home around the grounds of St. Columba’s.
๐ Our School Trip ๐
We had fantastic fun on our school trip to the beach and the park with Kilrea Primary School. We loved building sandcastles, eating a delicious picnic and playing in the park with all our friends.
๐ณ๐๐ Outdoor Garden ๐ณ๐๐ We have been spending time exploring our outdoor garden during Spring. It was great fun being able to identify some of the wildlife we spotted. Hopefully we will continue to see more plants and animals making a home in our school grounds in the coming months.

๐World Book Day๐
As part of our World Book Day celebrations, some of the boys and girls in Year 2 made excellent ‘Book Boxes’. We had so much fun listening to the clues and trying to figure out which books the box belonged to. Well done to all for showing such creativity!

We have been very adventurous while exploring our new Jungle topic during PBL.

๐ โ๏ธ๐จ Tiger Art ๐จโ๏ธ๐
We have been studying tigers during Art lessons. We sketched them using different materials. First, we used charcoal pencils and then, we sketched them again using oil pastels. Next, we mixed paint colours to paint their striped pattern.

๐งฉ๐งธ PBL with Our Buddies ๐งธ๐งฉ
We are so lucky to have fabulous buddies from Year 7. They joined us for a PBL session and we had so much fun. They were so kind and helpful. We can’t wait to do lots more activities with them in the future.

๐ซ๐Grandparents’ Day๐๐ซ
We were delighted to welcome some of our wonderful grandparents to St. Columba’s to share our special assembly with them. We also remembered all of our Grandparents who couldn’t be with us. We love our Grandparents!

๐งธ๐งฅ Finding a new material for Teddy’s coat๐งฅ๐งธ
Our class teddy needed a brand new coat to keep him dry in wet weather. We conducted an experiment and tested a range of materials to find out which materials are waterproof. We found the vinyl material was the best to keep our teddy warm and dry.

Our Toy Museum

We investigated old and new toys and how they move. We loved finding out about the toys our parents and grandparents loved playing with when they were young.

๐ซ It’s A Party ๐ซ
Year 1 and 2 produced a wonderful Christmas performance. Our audience were delighted to see such fabulous acting and singing.

๐ซ๐งฆAnti-Bullying Week๐งฆ๐ซ
We celebrated Anti-Bullying week by donning our finest odd socks. We know that our differences make us special and created a Kindness Heart to remind us to show kindeness to everybody.๐

โ๏ธShared Educationโ๏ธ We were delighted to begin our Shared Education journey with our friends from Kilrea Primary School. We enjoyed two wonderful mornings listening to stories, creating masks and shields and lots of play. We can’t wait to see our friends again soon!

We have been loving our new topic learning all about Castles and Fairytales, especially during PBL.

๐ง๐ปโ๏ธ2D Shape ๐ง๐ปโ๏ธ We used what we have learned about 2D shapes to make spooky witch pictures. Aren’t they scary?

Year 2 celebrated European Day of Languages by becoming Spanish Superheroes for the afternoon.๐ช๐ธ

Our topic at the moment is ‘The Building Site’. We have been having so much fun during Play Based Learning exploring the different parts of a construction site.
