There are 26 children in our class. Our teacher is called Miss McKenna. Our classroom assistants are called Mrs Kirk and Mr McLaughlin. On this page you can keep up to date with all the exciting things we are doing in school. 

Planting in the garden

Year 3 planted and watered scallion bulbs in our garden area. We can't wait to watch them grow!

Finding right angles.

Year 3 are learning about right angles as part of their Numeracy topic 'Shape'. We became 'right angle investigators', searching for right angles outdoors.

World Maths Day

Year 3 celebrated World Maths Day by participating in a 'shape scavenger hunt' where they had to find 3D shapes around the school grounds.

Science Experiment

As part of our World Around Us topic, 'What's the Weather?', Year 3 were investigating which materials were the most waterproof and therefore would be the best option to use to make an umbrella.

Numeracy

Year 3 are learning how to add 2-digit numbers with exchanges. We are using Dienes and part whole models to help us with our calculations. 

Year 3 Shared Education

We loved having our friends from Kilrea Primary School visit us this week. We listened to the story of Finn McCool and then completed some activities based on the story.

Making Jelly

As part of our World Around Us topic 'Big Cook Little Cook', Year 3 were studying recipes. We followed the recipe to make jelly and were able to sample it the next day.

It was delicious!

Christmas wreath decorations.

Year 3 designed their own Christmas wreath to put on their Christmas tree at home.

Dog's Trust Visit

Year 3 had a visit from the Dog's Trust to tell us how to take care of our dogs and be safe around them.

Numeracy

Year 3 are learning to make equal groups. We used cubes to create equal groups of a given number. We then skip counted in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s to find the total number of cubes.

Ditch the Dark Day

Today we donned our brightest clothes for 'Ditch the Dark Day' so that we can be seen on these dark mornings and evenings walking to and from school.

PE

This term we are learning about Gymnastics in PE. We are trying to move our body into different shapes and move around the hall in different ways. 

A Visit to Kilrea Primary School.

Year 3 visited their friends in Kilrea Primary School as part of the Shared Education Programme. We listened to the story 'The Smartest Giant in Town' and played games together. 

Odd Socks Day

Numeracy

This week we are learning about length. We are finding items in our classroom which are longer, shorter and the same length as a metre stick. 

Happy Halloween!

Digital Art and Design

Year 3 used the app 'Just2Easy' to create a self portrait to link with our World Around us Topic 'Ourselves'. We learned how to select colours and replicate our facial features.

Maths week

We had so much fun playing Maths games with Year 5 to celebrate Maths week.

Code week

To celebrate code week, we played the beebot game on the iPads. We worked together to solve the problems 🐝

Senses Walk

As part of our World Around Us topic, 'ourselves', we have been learning about our senses. We went on a senses walk to see what we can find with each of our senses.

We used cotton buds to create the dots on our autumn leaves. We selected autumn colours to make our leaves look realistic.
