👫Welcome to Our Class Page

Our teacher is called Mrs McGuckin and our classroom assistants are Mrs McAleese and Miss Barkley. Our page will tell you about all the exciting activities we get up to throughout the year. 

Off We Spin! 
As part of our topic, we made and experimented with paper spinners. We tested them out and decided which one spun the best.

💦Harvesting our Radishes☀️

The good weather really made our radishes grow! It was time to pull them up and we were so shocked to see how well they had grown. We all had a taste and some liked them more than others. 🥗

We love to spend time in the wildflower garden. We take notice of all the wildlife around us and also try to catch some of it for a closer look!

⛪️The Feast of Saint Columba🛶

On the 9th of June we celebrated Saint Columba. He is a special Saint to us as our school is named after him.

🚀🚛 Making Vehicles 🚂✈️

As part of our ‘Off We Go!’ topic, we made a variety of vehicles using junk material.

We explored all the different modes of transport and created a display to show all of them.

We went to Portrush Park and the beach for our school trip. We had a great time playing with our friends.

We enjoy playing and learning in our Woodland area, especially when the weather is good!

🧁The Fairtrade Bake Off🍰

We went to the Fairtrade Bake Off held by Year 7. There were so many delicious treats to see. We got to taste some of the lovely bakes. Thank you Year 7.

👫Shared Education Day🦕🦖

On our second day with Kilrea Primary School we participated in lots of outdoor activities based on our theme of dinosaurs. We enjoyed meeting up and playing with all of our friends.

⛪️First Holy Communion👫

On Saturday 20th May it was our First Holy Communion Day. We had been preparing for this day all year and were very excited when it finally arrived. We had a great day with our family and friends. Thank you to Fr McDermott for making it so special.

2D Shapes

We enjoyed learning all about the properties of 2D shapes. It was fun making them on the geoboards.

We prepared the bed and put the radish seeds in.

We have been learning all about angles and lines all around us and in shapes. We have learnt a lot of new mathematical vocabulary - right angle, acute, obtuse, parallel and perpendicular.

👫The Big Walk and Wheel🚴
Well done to everyone who travelled actively to school over the two weeks of ‘The Big Walk and Wheel’.

📚Matilda👫

We really enjoyed the chapter where Bruce eats the whole chocolate cake. We provided arguments for sending Bruce to the chokey OR to send Miss Trunchbull.

🌍Climate Change💦

We observed how the melting of the polar ice caps will have a dramatic effect on the land and the animals. The level of water rose as the ice melted and the animals ended up in the water. We also noticed how the water rose up over some of the land.

Congratulations Year 4 on celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation. You were all fantastic and we are very proud of you.💫

⛪️First Communion Programme👫

We participated in a First Communion Programme presented by Mary and Therese from the Derry Diocesan Catechetical Centre. We enjoyed listening to what they had to say, praying with them and carrying out all the activities.

❄️Blubber Experiment🦭

We carried out an experiment to find out how polar animals keep warm in the cold. We used butter to act as blubber and measured the difference in temperature with the butter bag and without it.

👫Children’s Mental Health Week☺️

We created Support Balloons to remind us of all the people we have around us to help us when we feel sad or worried. We also talked about things we could do to help us feel better when we are a bit down. Everyone had fabulous ideas! 🎈

💻Safer Internet Day📱

We discussed what we use the internet for. Then we ranked the uses from low risk to high risk. We talked about how we could solve any problems that might arise while using the internet. We all know to talk to an adult when we feel worried about something that we see when online.

We thought of lots of ways in which we can help others in need.

We are very thankful for everything our Grandparents do for us.

👫Shared Education Day😊

We enjoyed a fun day with our friends in Kilrea Primary School. We listened to the story ‘Dear Dinosaur’ and then we worked together to colour dinosaurs and create dinosaur posters on the iPad.

Testing Our Spitfires

After making our Spitfires we went into the hall to see which one would fly the furthest. We had lots of fun and Fiadh’s flew the furthest.

🌟👫Road Safety Week🔦🚙

During Road Safety Week we learned how important it is to stay safe when near a road. We investigated the best colours to wear in the dark when near a road. We discovered that white, yellow and green shone the brightest.

Daffodil Bulbs

Before Winter arrives we planted some daffodil bulbs in our pots. We cannot wait to see them when Spring comes!

We wore our odd socks to show that it is ok to be yourself! 

👫Anti-Bullying Week❤️

We created acts of kindness that we would carry out during Anti-Bullying Week. Then we put them on to our Kindness Tree.

📚National Poetry Day✏️

We worked in groups to gather nouns, verbs and adjectives about Autumn. 
Then we used the ideas we had gathered to write our own Autumn Poems.🍁🦔🍂🐿🎃

🌍The World’s Largest Lesson🏠

We looked at the houses in developing countries that some people have to live in. We also know that some people have no homes at all. We worked together to crest a community of homes to remind us that some day, we hope that everyone will have a safe and comfortable home to live in. Sustainable Goal Number 3.

We participated in an online coding workshop facilitated by the Nerve Centre. We really enjoyed the session and learned a lot about using Scratch Junior.

We are reading the story of ‘The Enormous Crocodile’. We thought of other ways that The Enormous Crocodile could disguise himself to trick the children so that he could catch them.
