Year 4 celebrated European Day of Languages learning some new words in Irish and Polish.
Article 30 states 'Children have the right to learn and use the language of their families'.

Year 4 celebrated Code Week EU in School. They used the 'Scratch Jr' App on the iPads to create their own Animations. They were able to use their coding skills to select a character and programme it to move in different ways #coding #codeweek #scratchjr #iPads #UsingICT
๐๐ฃ World Mental Health Day ๐ฃ๐
Year 4 incorporated some new Mindful exercises into their PE lesson to celebrate World Mental Health Day on Thursday 10th October. We discussed in class the importance of maintaining a healthy mind, as well as a healthy body. The class recognised the different ways we can keep our minds healthy and happy - strategies we use in school daily!

To mark the occasion of Maths Week Ireland 2019 we completed a Selection of Problem Solving activities in Year 4. We used a range of practical materials and different methods of working out to solve the different problems. Our whole-school completed the 'Spookathon', our Mile-a-Day in costume part of the PTA Fundraiser for this half-term. It was a great initiative to help raise money for our school, whilst improving our fitness levels too. ๐๐ซ World Children's Day 2019 ๐ซ๐
Year 4 celebrated 'World Children's Day' on the 20th November, by completing tasks relating to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). 2019 is the 30th Anniversary of the introduction of the UNCRC and as a Right's Respecting School, we are fully committed to promoting Children's rights in all that we do.
Article 2 of the UNCRC states 'All children have rights.'

We celebrated Morning Mass with our Grandparents in St. Anne's Oratory, during Catholic Schools Week. A selection of pupils from our class took part in the readings and offertory of the Mass. Miss Coyle and the choir provided beautiful music to accompany the liturgy. #grandparentsday #catholicschoolsweek2020
๐๐ Investigating Rights in Year 4 ๐๐
Year 4 have been learning all about Anne Frank in their ‘Blast from the Past’ topic. Anne Frank and her family were persecuted by the Nazis during WW2 because they were Jews. Jewish people and children at that time didn’t have access to their rights.
The 27th January 2020 was ‘World Holocaust Day’. Using NewsDesk, Year 4 engaged in group discussion about the mistreating of Jewish people, especially children during WW2. They talked about the Articles of the UNCRC and which of these rights were not provided in the Concentration Camps during the War.
โ๏ธ๐ป Safer Internet Day ๐ปโ๏ธ
We read the picture book 'Troll Stinks' on Safer Internet Day in Year 4. The class participated in group discussion about using the Internet responsibly and shared their thoughts and opinions with their peers. Pupils then created their own set of 'Golden Rules for Online Safety' to spread the word of how to keep themselves and others safe when using the Internet.

Year 4 made beautiful Valentine's Day cards in school for their family.
๐ Fairtrade Fortnight ๐
Year 4 were learning all about Fairtrade Farming in school. We watched the video 'Guardians of the Rainforest' to learn how Fairtrade, sustainable farming can help to protect the rainforest and ensures farmers get the best price for their products. We were able to see how cocoa beans are grown and used to make the chocolate we eat. Pupils then designed posters to advertise 'Fairtrade Chocolate'! ๐ซ
๐ World Book Day 2020 ๐
Year 4 celebrated World Book Day by being 'Active Readers' in the outdoors. They came to school dressed in their sports gear and spent time reading in the sunshine in our school garden. #activereaders #worldbookday2020
The children in Year 4 are eager readers and enjoyed taking part in all of planned activities for World Book Day. They created their favourite book characters out of their wooden spoons. What fabulous creations too!!

Year 4 have been preparing for the season of Easter in their Religion lessons. They have been busy learning all about Holy Week and Easter. They created beautiful Easter gardens using items from nature, wrote about the Easter Story, drew fabulous illustrations and displayed their fab ICT skills by completing online tasks too! ๐ธ๐ May is the Month of Mary ๐๐ธ
Year 4 remembered Our Lady during the month of May. They created beautiful May Altars in their homes, drew portraits of Mary and designed Homemade Rosaries. Each day we prayed a Hail Mary for our families.
๐โบ๏ธMental Health Awareness Week 2020โบ๏ธ๐
To mark Mental Health Awareness Week (18th-24th May) Year 4 watched a video ‘Lucy’s Blue Day’ about a girl who’s hair turned blue when she was sad. They then thought of different ways to can change their mood if they feel sad. In our class, we are encouraged to reach out and tell someone if we are unhappy. As we are no longer in school, it was heartening to see the different ways Year 4 deal with their difficult emotions.

Year 4 have been revising Line Symmetry at home. They created beautiful Symmetrical Butterflies to demonstrate their understanding of symmetrical shapes and patterns. They completed the task digitally, showing their developing ICT skills too! #homelearning #mathsathome #symmetry
๐Feast of St. Columba๐
We celebrated the Feast of St. Columba on Tuesday 9th June. St. Columba is one of the Patron Saints of Ireland and our School is named after him. We listened to the story of St. Columba and then created our own St. Columba crests. St. Columba Pray for us ๐
