Red and White Day 🔴⚪️

Trip to River Bush Salmon Station

YWe went to the Salmon Station with our friends from Kilrea Primary School.We were looking forward to see how much our salmon had grown since they were in our classroom. We studied the different minibeasts found in the riverbed and finished our day with a picnic on the beach!

Loreto Taster Day

 

We visited Loreto College in Coleraine to see if we would like to go there for secondary school. We made keyrings, played outside, decorated buns and learned about the foodchain.

Fairtrade Bakeoff

 

We were so lucky to have a look at all the delicious treats baked by Year 7. We got to sample two of the cakes, they were very tasty!

Planting in the Outdoor Garden

 

Our class was tasked with the upkeep of the herb bed in our outdoor garden. We planted rosemary and corriander. We must water them regularly. We are looking forward to watching them grow.

Take 5 Steps to Wellbeing

This month, we focused on the theme of 'Keep Learning'.

Big Walk and Big Wheel

Over the last 10 days, we have been trying to be active on our journey to and from school. Our class won the Active Travel to School competition with a terrific score of 88% active travels! This rewarded us 5 minutes extra break time.

Easter Passion Play

 

Article 14: All children have the right to practise their religion.

International Woman's Day

 

Year 6 were researching important woman in history in celebration of International Woman's Day. They presented their findings to the class by creating a poster using Adobe Express.

Salmon Eggs

Stephen from the Irish Society visited Year 6 to set up a mini hatchery of salmon eggs. We will look after the eggs and watch the salmon grow over the next few weeks.

World Book Day

 

To celebrate World Book Day, Year 6 competed in a 'Footy vs Booky' quiz. They also read a story to their Year 1 buddies.

 

 

Northern Lights - Aurora Borealis

 

This week the Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, were visible in Ireland. Year 6 were researching pictures of the Northern Lights and designed their own image of the natural light display using chalk.

African Masks

 

As part of our World Around us Topic 'Worlds Apart', we created masks following the African tradition.

Fun in the snow!

 

Year 6 had great fun playing in the snow this week. We worked together to create a snowman and made pictures on the ground using snow and stones.

St Louis' Grammar School visit

Year 6 visited St Louis' Grammar School and their state of the art PE facilities. We learned about food and nutrition, well-being and then had some fun on their 4G pitch.

Year 6 used a needle and thread to stitch felt two circles together. We stuffed the circles with cotton wool and decorated them.

Dairy Council Visit

Today we had a visit from the Dairy Council. They talked to us about why dairy was an important part of our diet and the importance of exercise. They taught us a song and we danced along.

Ditch the Dark Day

Today we donned our brightest clothing to 'ditch the dark'. This allows us to be seen in the dark Winter mornings and evenings when we are walking to and from school.

Maths Week 💯 

To celebrate Maths Week, Year 6 completed some problem solving activities using Izak9. We played the ‘eliminator’ game which was so much fun!

European Languages Day 🇪🇸 

To celebrate European Languages Day we learned some superhero phrases in Spanish. We sang songs and played “Simón dice”.

Bike to School Week 🚴

 

To celebrate bike to school week, we participated in a cycling lesson. We were learning how to control our speed and steering by having a slow race!

Buddy Assembly💛

Today we presented an assembly for our Year 1 buddies. We made a bookmark gift and presented it to them. 📚 

 

Wildflower Garden 🌼 🌸 🌻 🌹 🏵

We love spending time unwinding from the busy classroom in the wildflower garden.
