Our teacher is called Mrs McGuckin and our classroom assistant is Miss Mullan. Our page will tell you about all the exciting activities we get up to throughout the year!

😊First Holy Communion Celebrations!😊

We had a lovely time together outside to celebrate receiving our First Holy Communion.

First Holy Communion⛪️
Saturday 18th June was a very special day for us. We received our First Holy Communion with all our family and friends around us. We all had the best day and we are very proud of all the hard work we did to prepare for this very special day. 

The Feast of Saint Columba⛪️

We learned a lot about Saint Columba and enjoyed singing the Saint Columba song.

🌎Litter Pick👫

We went around the school grounds to collect litter. There wasn’t too much lying around as we use our bins. We enjoy looking after our world!

We went outside with our right angle finders to look for right angles.

Our daffodils are now in full bloom and we planted some spring flowers in with them.

We all dressed in green and made a shamrock picture to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day!

📚World Book Day📚

We really enjoyed creating clues for a character from a story that we enjoy. We read out the clues and everyone tried to work out who it was!

🍩🧁Fairtrade Bake Off🍰🍪

We donated 50p to charity and got some delicious treats at the same time! 

🍍🍌Fairtrade Fortnight🍊🍫☕️

We began Fairtrade Fortnight by talking about the importance of paying farmers a fair price for their products. We hope our artwork reminds St.Columba’s to buy Fairtrade Products when they can. 

🍌The Journey of a Fairtrade Banana🍌

We found out all about the journey of a Fairtrade banana. We made a banana plant to remind us to try to buy Fairtrade products when we can.

👫Children’s Mental Health Week😊

We listened to the story ‘Ruby’s Worry’ and created support balloons to show all the people that we can talk to if we feel worried.

💻Safer Internet Day 2022📱

We listened to the story ‘Digiduck and the Magic Castle’. We sorted information that is safe to share on the internet and information that is not safe to share. Then we created a piece of advice to keep us all safe as we play and enjoy activities on the internet.

❄️How do polar animals keep warm?❄️

We used butter to recreate the effect blubber has on some polar animals. We put our hand in to icy water first. Then we put it inside the ‘blubber’ glove and back in to the icy water. We discovered that it wasn’t as cold!

We were excited to learn all about the Polar regions. Have a look at some of the activities we did as part of our topic.

We created personalised cards for our Grandparents to let them how much we love spending time with them.💕

Catholic Schools Week

We began the week by sharing our talents with our classmates and those in Miss Rafferty’s Year 4. We want to practise our talents and spend time doing the things that we enjoy. We want to live life to the full! 

During Catholic Schools Week, we celebrated the wonderful world God gave us!

❄️Polar Scenes❄️

We enjoyed using paint and paper collage to create out polar scenes.

✈️Let’s Investigate!

We carried out a fair test to see who could fly their plane the furthest. All of the planes were the same size, made from the same material and we stood at the same line to let them fly. We had a lot of of fun carrying out this investigation.

T'was the Night Before Christmas

We really enjoyed performing our Christmas Performance for everyone at school and at home. We put a lot of work in to getting it just right and we had a fabulous time on the day!

Christmas is nearly here and we are happy about that!

Today we wore a Christmas Accessory during our run to celebrate our participation in the Daily Mile.

World War Two

We really enjoyed learning all about World War Two. We made fighter planes and gas masks. We also investigated the best material to use for a blackout curtain.

👫AntiBullying Week😊

We began the week wearing our odd socks to show that it is alright to be different. We carried out a few other activities throughout the week to reinforce the message of ‘One Kind Word’.

Length

We enjoyed estimating and measuring length in centimetres and millimetres.

👫Odd Socks Day😊

We kicked off Anti-Bullying Week with Odd Socks Day! It is ok to be yourself. We do not all have to be the same as each other.

All Saints Day⛪️

We learned all about Saint Vincent de Paul. We know lots of different Saints. Here are some of them!

We used pastels to create World War Two scenes. They show the blitz, the evacuation, soldiers and fighter planes.

🌞Outdoor Classroom Day🌍

To celebrate Outdoor Classroom Day, we planted daffodil bulbs around the school grounds. We hope to see them popping up in early Spring.🌼

We had a great day as we dressed up for Hallowe’en and made spiders on a web!

🌺Goodbye Mrs Dallat💕

We had a very special ceremony to say goodbye to Mrs Dallat as she begins her retirement. We hope that she will enjoy the rest and we will miss her very much! 

👫Kindness Tree😊

We shared how our friends have been kind to us and put all of these nice things on our Kindness Tree. We have a kindness token and when someone is kind to us we pass the token to them.

Maths Week 🔺🔸▪️

We chose two criteria for sorting 2D Shapes and then we placed them in the correct place on the Venn Diagram. We discovered that we could use lots of different criteria and make lots of sorts!

Coding Week💻

We used the programme ‘Minecraft Adventure’ to program the character to complete the challenges. It was really fun trying to get to the highest level that we could!

Tidy Up!

Now that Summer is over it is time for a tidy up outside. We removed the weeds from our bedding areas and planting pots. It will soon be time to plant the Spring bulbs.

National Poetry Day

We read a poem called ‘Autumn is Here’. Then we recorded our own thoughts and ideas about Autumn.🍂🍁🎃💥

👫Our Class Charter🌍

We talked about how we could make sure everyone would get their rights. Then we made our promises. We will keep these rules in our classroom and outside as well.

✏️Our Cubism Portraits🖍

We used the artistic approach made famous by a Picasso to create abstract portraits of ourselves.

A Visit from Father Cargan ⛪️

Today we watched Morning Mass and then we had a special visitor! Father Cargan came to visit us and brought us a special gift. As October is the month of the Rosary, Father Cargan thought that we would like rosary beads and a prayer book to help us with our prayers. This is a very important year for us as we are to make our First Holy Communion. We were delighted with Father Cargan’s visit and his very generous gift to us. Thank you Father Cargan.
