Welcome to our class page. Our teacher is Mr McGuckin and our classroom assistants are Mrs Cochrane and Mrs Kirk. Come and visit to see all the things we get up to throughout the year. 

Numeracy in P.5 

 

We have been busy in class recapping over our two times tables. We like to time each other to see who is the fastest in the class.

National Coding Week

 

This week we got to take part in a Zoom session which focused on the theme of 'Space Invaders'. We followed different coding instructions and created our own game. Watch us all have a go.

The World's Largest Lesson 

The boys and girls took part in the ‘World’s Largest Lesson’ last week and learned all about the importance of looking after the environment. Their challenge was to draw what they thought their hometown of Kilrea would be like in 25 years. They included some recycling centres, electric cars, more trees and habitats for the animals and some solar panels on some of the buildings.

The Trinity 

In class we were learning all about the Trinity in terms of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. We then got the opportunity to create our own Trinity bracelets using 3 strands of string.

Article of the Week - Climate Change 

Primary 5 are working hard to support the fight against climate change. They have created posters to find ways of slowing down climate change. 

Article 24: Every child has the right to the best possible health

Halloween in Primary 5 

We had lots of fun carving out a pumpkin to help us write a set of instructions for others to follow.

Here are our lovely Halloween art pictures. We got the opportunity to mix different paints to create an exciting spooky background for our haunted houses.

Anti-Bullying Week 

To celebrate 'Anti-Bullying Week', Primary 5 each picked a child's name out of a hat and wrote a kind message about that person. We then shared these acts of kindness with the children in the room.

St.Brigid's Day 

Primary 5 celebrated St.Brigid's Day by weaving their own St.Brigid cloaks.

Painting in Primary 5

Primary 5 celebrated Children’s Mental Health Week today by taking part in an Art lesson delivered by Sinéad McDermott. Their landscape piece was inspired by David Hockney and they used a mixture of water paint colours and oil pastels. The theme this week was 'Let's connect' so they were able to do this with a variety of other schools through the zoom call.

Our Water Topic 

We have been learning all about the topic of water in our World Around Us lessons. We started to learn about Titanic and carried out a science investigation to make our own boats. We focused on what materials to use and whether we could get our boats to float or sink in the water.

Pancake Tuesday 

Today we celebrated Pancake Tuesday by toasting our own pancakes and then choosing different toppings for them. They were delicious.

World Book Day 

The boys and girls enjoyed dressing up as different adjectives for World Book Day and taking the time to share their favourite stories. We also enjoyed decorating our class door and creating our own reading dens at home.

Celebrating St. Patrick's Day 

The boys and girls dressed up in their green colours to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. We took part in an assembly teaching everyone all about St. Patrick and how to do the 'Waves of Tory'. We also enjoyed completing some St. Patrick's Day art.

School Trip

Our class enjoyed a fabulous trip to Portrush and Megaw Park in Ballymoney. We had so much fun with our friends from Kilrea PS.

As part of our most recent topic, the Vikings, our class designed their own Viking shields!

Best of luck to the Derry team on Sunday as they face Cork in the All Ireland Quarter Final!

We have had a fantastic last week in Year 5. We have competed in Kahoot quizzes and had lots of fun with all our friends! Have a lovely summer everyone!
