🙏🏻 St. Columba's 1500th Anniversary 🙏🏻

 

St. Columba's feast day is celebrated on the 9th June. This year, we celebrate 1500 years since the birth of St. Columba. To mark this special occasion, we joined the online celebration of Mass from St. Anne's and created beautiful artwork depicting the life of St. Columba.

We had great fun in the sun participating in our year group Sports Day on Friday 4th June.

📱 Developing our Computational Thinking Skills 📱

We are learning to develop our computational thinking skills by exploring the Beebot App. Our task is to guide Beebot to a specific location by inputing a series of directions.

Year 3 had great fun creating 2D shapes on the iPads and discussing their properties.

🚲 🛴The Big Pedal 🛴 🚲

 

We participated in the Big Pedal Challenge 2021. Each day during the challenge we walked, cycled, scooted to school.

Year 3 have been very busy preparing our vegetable garden for seedlings this week. We even spotted some tadpoles in our mini-pond! 🌱🐸

🌎🌱Earth Day 2021🌱🌍

We carried out a scavenger hunt to mark Earth Day 2021. We searched for lots of insects, mini-beasts and foliage.

While exploring Articles 12 and 13, we shared our thoughts on our favourite things in the whole world!

The boys and girls in Year 3 love exploring our wonderful outdoor play area.

☘️St. Patrick's Day Celebrations☘️

 

Year 3 dressed in green in celebration of St. Patrick's Day on Tuesday 16th March. We learned all about the life of St. Patrick, our Patron Saint.

📚 World Book Day 📚

 

We had great fun celebrating World Book Day in Year 3. We are currently reading 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' by Roald Dahl as our class novel so our activities were based on the story. Our activities included designing delicious chocolate bars, becoming illustrators as well as dressing up as our favourite characters, reading in unusual places and completing a range of many more fun tasks. Although we celebrated World Book Day at home this year during remote learning, we certainly had great fun!

🧮📏💭 World Maths Day💭📏🧮

 

Year 3 participated in a range if fun activities to mark World Maths Day 2021. We enjoyed carrying out a maths trail and completing maths challenges at home.

🍫🍌🌍 Fairtrade Fortnight 🌍🍌🍫

 

We have been learning all about the impact and significance of supporting Fairtrade during our celebration of Fairtrade Fortnight. We designed posters to spread the message!

Article 32 - If you work you have the right to be safe and paid fairly.

 

Article 36 - You have the right to protection from any kind of exploitation.

 📱💻 Safer Internet Day 2021 💻📱

 

An internet we trust: exploring reliability

in the online world.

 

Year 3 pupils celebrated Safer Internet Day a little differently this year. Our theme, 'An internet we trust: exploring reliability in the online world’ was explored through participation in a range of activities throughout all classes. Now, more than ever, we are all spending more time on line. The importance and significance of celebrating together has never been greater!

Article 19: You have the right to be protected from being hurt, in body or mind.

Article 8: You have the right to protect your identity.

Article 17: You have the right to access information from a variety of sources. 

👴🏻👵🏻 Grandparents Day 2021 👵🏻👴🏻

 

We celebrated Grandparents Day with a difference this year but we all made a big effort to tell our Grandparents how much they are loved.

Article 30: 'Every child has the right to learn and use the language, customs and religion of their family.'

There's Only One Me! 

 

Year 3 explored their unique qualities while learning about Article 2 - the convention applies to everyone without discrimination; Article 19 - we have the right to be protected from being hurt or mistreated, in body or mind; Article 37 - no-one is allowed to punish you in a cruel or harmful way. 

 Christmas Jumper Day

🎅🏼🎄

Year 3 donned their Christmas jumpers to mark Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 11th December. This year, we collected donations in support of the Christmas Family Appeal organised by the Education Authority.  This money will be used by St. Vincent de Paul and The Salvation Army to help many families this Christmas.

We Three Kings

Year 3 have been very busy getting creative!

We have been exploring the area of data handling in numeracy. The children had great fun recording data, saving and presenting their work using the iPads. #makingmathsfun #managingdata

Year 3 have been learning about Article 16: 'You have the right to privacy'. We made signs to use in quiet areas at home to make others aware of our wish to enjoy a quiet moment. 

🌈Anti -Bullying Week 2020🌈

Year 3 were very busy during Anti-Bullying Week. We kicked the week off with Odd Socks Day when we each wore odd socks to remind us of what makes us unique. We also participated in a range of fun activities and discussion around this year's theme; United Against Bullying. To end the week, we celebrated World Children's Day with a range of fun activities and games.

The boys and girls in Year 3 took full advantage of all the wonderful colour in the natural environment within our outdoor learning area this autumn. We collected some leaves and other items to use in our autumn artwork.

Drawing God Day

We celebrated 'Drawing God Day' by creating beautiful drawings to represent how we see God in our lives.

📱 EU Code Week 📱

 

During EU Code Week, the boys and girls in Year 3 had the opportunity to enhance their coding skills using the app 'PJ Masks; Hero Academy'.

To celebrate Maths Week 2020 pupils in Year 3 took part in a range of activities that helped develop their mathematical thinking and reasoning.

Year 3 joined many other boys and girls within the Diocese of Derry in celebrating the Beginning of School Year Mass via webcam offered by Bishop Donal McKeown from St. Eugene's Cathedral, Derry.

🐛🔎 Outdoor Play 🔎🐛

Year 3 enjoyed the first of many outdoor learning experiences this year in our wonderful outdoor play area.  This is a rich learning environment which ignites many interesting discussions. They certainly had great fun!
