🌟Welcome to our Year 3 Class Page!🌟

 

Our teacher is Mrs Keenan and our classroom assistants are Mrs Doherty and Mrs Quigg. Our page will keep you updated on all our class news including photographs of activities we carry out in Year 3. 

🦋🐛Fly Away Butterflies🐛🦋

Year 3 have been learning about the lifecycle of the butterfly. We observed our tiny caterpillars growing before they formed their chrysalises and then underwent their amazing transformation into butterflies. We released our butterflies in our school garden. 

 😎☀️School Trip🚌☀️

Year Three and Year Four had great fun in the sun today on their trip to The Port with their friends from Kilrea Primary School. What a perfect place to enjoy our wonderful weather! 🏖️😎☀️

🌟Enjoying Outdoor 

Play 🌟

We are so lucky to have such an amazing outdoor play area in our school garden. We love to explore! 

♻️🎶 Recycle the Rhythm 🎶♻️

As part of their Encanto: Recycle the Rhythm project, Year 3 pupils made their own musical instruments using recycled materials. To mark the culmination of the project, the children had the opportunity to showcase their fantastic work and participate in a musical parade.

🌱 Time to Grow! 🌱

We have been busy growing sunflowers and nasturtiums from seed as well as planting blueberry and blackberry plants next to our school poly-tunnel outside. Now we have the job of looking after them and watering them regularly. Watch this space for photos of our produce!

We joined primary schools across County Derry to celebrate ‘Red and White Day’ in support of the Derry Senior Football Team ahead of their Ulster Semi-Final clash with Monaghan. Good luck Derry! #doireabú 

Shared Education 


Year 3 had a great morning visiting their friends in Kilrea Primary School. The children listened to the story of Finn MacCool before completing a range of fun practical activities on the theme of our local legend. #sharededucation #funwithfriends 🎨🖌️🦶

🐣🐰Easter Egg Hunt🐰🐣

The boys and girls had great fun completing their Easter Egg Hunt before getting to enjoy lots of tasty treats 

☘️ St. Patrick’s Day ☘️

We celebrated St. Patrick’s Day in Year 3 by making beautiful fingerprint shamrocks and wearing green.

Year 3 participated in a recent Young Writers competition entitled ‘The Magic Door’. During the early planning stages, they presented their ideas on what lay behind the door in their drawings before sharing them with their classmates.

🍌🍍Fairtrade Fortnight🍍🍌

 

Year 3 pupils have been learning about the significance of supporting Fairtrade farmers in developing countries during Fairtrade Fortnight. By purchasing and supporting Fairtrade produce, the farmers who grow our products make a fair profit and can use this money to provide more opportunities for their families. We designed posters to help share this important message.

💖International Women’s Day 💖

 

Year 3 are inspired by many women in their lives. In celebration of International Women’s Day, they shared some of the reasons these special ladies are inspirational to them.

📚World Book Day📚

 

Year 3 celebrated World Book Day by coming to school dressed as adjectives’. We gathered together in assembly to show off all our wonderful costumes before completing a range of fun activities in class.

Year 3 pupils participated in an online art lesson with Sinead McDermott from the Art and Design Factory. The children thoroughly enjoyed their experience and produced beautiful paintings inspired by the work of artist David Hockney. 🖌️🎨🖼️👩🏼‍🎨🧑🏻‍🎨

Year 3 pupils discussed all the ways they use the internet on a daily basis at home and in school before recording their digital footprints. #SaferInternetDay

🙏🏻Catholic Schools Week🙏🏻 
 

Year 3 celebrated Catholic Schools Week by inviting their grandparents into school to make St. Brigid’s crosses. They finished off their morning together with a nice cup of tea and a tasty treat!

👩🏻‍🍳Big Cook, Little Cook🧑🏻‍🍳


We are exploring the topic of ‘Big Cook, Little Cook’ during January and February. We made jelly and noted how some foods change state when they are heated or cooled.

Year 3 pupils worked in pairs to create beautiful festive digital graphics.

Year 3 shone brightly on ‘Ditch the Dark Day’ as we walked, cycled or scooted to school wearing brightly coloured clothing. Well done everyone! #sustrans #activetravel

🤍Anti-Bullying Week🤍

Pupils in Year 3 created beautiful artwork, recorded recipes for a good friendship and wore our odd socks to mark Anti-Bullying Week 2022. 🖍💛 #antibullyingweek

🔢Maths Week🔢
 

We celebrated Maths Week Ireland by carrying out a range of activities using Izak 9. The pupils worked in groups to make number bonds within 10 and build 2D shapes.

🍂🍁Autumn Collages🍁🍂

The boys and girls in Year 3 collected autumn leaves and natural materials in our outdoor learning area this week and used them to create beautiful collages.

🚀 Our Place in Space 🚀

In celebration of 'World Space Week', Year 3 participated in an exciting online workshop this morning facilitated by the Nerve Centre. The children enjoyed listening to astronaut Nicole Stott answer questions on life as an astronaut before designing postcards as crew mates onboard 'Spaceship Earth'.  👩‍🚀🪐🔭☄️

In celebration of Roald Dahl Day, Year 3 recorded ‘Dream Jars’, inspired by the BFG. 

Outdoor Fun Together! 
 

We are so lucky to have such a wonderful outdoor space to play together in our outdoor learning area.

📱National Coding Week📱 

To celebrate National Coding Week, we participated in an online workshop facilitated by the Nerve Centre on the theme of ‘Our Place in Space’. Year 3 explored the Scratch Jnr App to create a digital story.

We are so fortunate to have our beautiful new wildflower garden to explore. A beautiful setting to sit down, relax and enjoy spotting wildlife with friends.
