๐ŸŽWelcome to our Nursery Class Page. On our page you will be able to see all the different activities and learning experiences that we have in Nursery.๐ŸŽ

Article 28 states that every child has the right to an education.

We have an excellent team in our Nursery. Mrs McCormick is our teacher. Mrs McCloskey is our classroom assistant. Mrs Lavery and Marlena volunteer in our Nursery.

Article 3 states that all adults should always do what is best for you.

Let’s play..........

In our Nursery garden........

Article 31 states that every child has the right to play and relax.....

Routine is so important in Nursery. Routine helps us to settle and prepare to learn. Our snack routine is very important. We wash our hands, eat our snack and have a refreshing drink each day.

Article 27 states that every child has the right to.... food......

๐ŸŽˆPlay helps to nurture our imagination and allows us to explore and learn. We learn essential skills such as problem solving, sharing, working with others, language development and making choices. We love to play in Nursery. ๐ŸŽˆ

Article 29 states that every child has the right to an education which tries to develop your personality and abilities as much as possible......

The 26th of September is European Day of Languages. In St. Columba’s Nursery we had lots of excellent language experiences this week. Mrs Lavery taught us some German ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช and Marlena sang some Polish ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ฑ rhymes and number. We also read a story about Dora the Explorer with Spanish ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ words in it. We are learning to bless ourselves so Mrs McCormick showed us how to bless ourselves in Irish. ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช

Article 30 states that every child has the right to practice their own religion and use their own language.

๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿผ‍โ™€๏ธIn the month of October we will be looking at the topic of “All About Me”.๐Ÿšถ‍โ™‚๏ธ We will also have lots of fun Halloween activities.๐ŸŽƒ

This excellent activity was an opportunity to allow the children to talk freely about themselves. In a language-rich environment modelling language is so important.

Let’s play.........

๐Ÿ“We have begun our Yoga lessons as part of our Mindfulness. Yoga is a very positive experience in Nursery. It allows the children to take a little time out to relax and focus, breath and be calm. We love it. ๐Ÿ“

โญ๏ธEvery child is special. Every child is a pupil of the week!! Each week Mrs McCloskey and I will highlight something special that a particular child has achieved or done. Everyone will receive this Award. This is a great opportunity to teach children about resilience and life skills. โญ๏ธ

โ›„๏ธ Winter Wonderland.โ˜ƒ๏ธ

๐Ÿงš๐Ÿป‍โ™€๏ธ We are a Rights Respecting Nursery. Fifi the Fairy teaches us about our rights. Everyone will get an opportunity to wear Fifi. This will develop our knowledge of our rights and allow us to chat about them each day. ๐Ÿงš๐Ÿป‍โ™€๏ธ

๐ŸงคWhile learning about looking after themselves in cold weather the children also know that Article 27 teaches them that they have a right to a good enough standard of food, clothes and a place to live.๐Ÿงฃ

๐ŸฏWe read the Tiger Who Came to Tea. The family went to a cafe for their tea because the tiger ate everything.  We set up a Cafe together. We enjoyed lots of role play in our cafe.๐Ÿฏ

The Tiger ate all the cereal. We had a discussion about cereal. We decided that we would love to eat some cereal in Nursery. So that is what we did. ๐Ÿค— We had a cereal morning. This allowed us to develop our fine motor skills through pouring cereal and milk. We also talked about the shape of the boxes and bowls. We also discussed the weight of each when full and empty. This was a great morning of early mathematical language.

Mrs McCloskey and the children made beautiful soda bread together. It was a feast for the senses!! We could smell beautiful oils and herbs, and of course the bread as it cooked. Again our mathematical language and motor skills were enhanced through this fun activity. Thank you Mrs McCloskey. ๐ŸŽˆ

๐Ÿ™๐ŸปCatholic Schools Week: Living Life to the Full.๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

Article 30 states that every child has the right to ....practice their own religion....

๐Ÿ’— During Catholic Schools Week we celebrated how important our Grandparents are to us. ๐Ÿ’—

We live life in wonder and awe. We are in awe of each other and of the beautiful environment we play in. This helps us to grow and learn together.

๐ŸŒฌFebruary ๐Ÿ’จ

๐Ÿš‘ People Who Help Us. ๐Ÿš’

The children have built on their knowledge of the different types of jobs there are. They have listened to Mrs Kielt telling us about her job. Bridie our Caretaker came to visit us. We know lots of information about other jobs such as the firefighter, doctor, nurse, postman, cook, librarian and teacher.

Article 28 states that every child has the right to an education.

โ„๏ธ We wrapped up warm and headed out every day on our wheeled toys. Exercise and fresh air are so important. Exercise develops coordination and muscle strength. It develops those gross motor skills that are needed for strong fine motor control as they get older. โ„๏ธ

We celebrated St. Brigid’s Day. We made our own Crosses using a variety of materials. We listened to the story of St. Brigid’s Cloak

๐Ÿ’— Mindfulness ๐Ÿ’—

We talk about our feelings in Nursery. We use our puppets and faces to tell the adults how we feel. This helps us to develop our language. It also helps us to talk to each other.

Valentine’s Day is a day for showing love to others.

We are learning about on-line safety and our digital footprint. A digital footprint is the trail of information you leave behind when you use the internet. It included things that can be learned about you based on your activity on-line. Thank you to Mrs Keenan who spoke to the children about keeping safe on-line.

๐Ÿ“ฎWe read a story about Postman Pat. A postman is a person who helps us. In the story Pat helped to make a dinosaur climbing frame for the children in the village. We decided to make one too.๐Ÿ“ซ

๐Ÿฆ– We have been learning about shape in Nursery. We have found lots of shape in our environment. We used these when making our dinosaur. ๐Ÿฆ•

โ„๏ธOn Thursday 24th February we had a great fall of snow. There was so much that we were able to fill the water tray with snow. We filled buckets and made snow castles. We used our senses to feel the snow, and we talked about what happened to it as the classroom got warmer. This was a very fun activity. โ„๏ธ

February 22nd, 2022 is written out numerically as 2/22/22. Not only is it a palindrome because it reads the same forward and backward, but what makes it special is the date has all twos. In Nursery, we look at our Road Safety Calendar every day. We were able to see this pattern of number 2’s. We looked for other 2’s in our classroom. Look how many we found.

๐ŸŒธMarch๐ŸŒผ

๐ŸŒทGrowth in Spring ๐Ÿƒ

๐Ÿ“šThursday 3rd March was World Book Day. We had a brilliant day of activities. We made zigzag books. We read our own books. We had a visit from our local librarian Ann, who read a variety of books for us. We love to read in Nursery.๐Ÿ“š

๐Ÿ“šLook at all the exciting, unusual places that our children read their books.๐Ÿ“š

๐ŸฐWe were delighted to help judge the fabulous baked goods produced by Year 7. Each child got a bun/piece of cake as a treat for snack. Look at all the Fairtrade treats that were produced. ๐ŸŽ‚

๐ŸŒธWe celebrated International Women’s Day with all our Mummy’s ๐ŸŒธ

Tuesday 8th March.

Article 30 states that every child has the right to enjoy their own culture.... and use their own language.

โ˜˜๏ธ Happy Saint Patrick’s Day โ˜˜๏ธ

โ˜˜๏ธ We celebrated St Patrick’s Day in Nursery. We wore green and ate “green” cake baked by Marlena. It’s colour was made using spinach. We printed shamrock. We listened to the story of St Patrick. โ˜˜๏ธ

๐ŸŒบWe love our Mums. They are so special.๐ŸŒบ

๐ŸŒธTerm 3๐ŸŒธ

In Term 3 we have learned about our favourite foods, minibeasts and the beach. We have also had lots of fun along the way. ๐ŸŽˆ

๐ŸฅชWe made delicious soda bread pizza and sandwiches. This activity helped to focus on our fine motor control. ๐Ÿฅช

โ˜€๏ธ We were lucky to have a very sunny week. We went outside into our garden for lots of extra play and fun. โ˜€๏ธ

๐Ÿฅช Sandwich time.๐Ÿฅช

๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿผ‍โ™‚๏ธIn Nursery we run the daily mile each day. ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿผ‍โ™€๏ธ

๐Ÿฐ Happy Easter ๐Ÿฃ

We made Easter Bunny hats. We decorated them with finger paints.

Our displays are special. They change every month. We love putting up new displays in Nursery.

๐ŸŒปLook how much our sunflower seeds have grown. We took them home.๐ŸŒป

Saint Columba is the Patron Saint of our Nursery. We celebrate his feast day every year. We sing a song about Saint Columba.

Happy Father’s Day to all our wonderful fathers.

๐Ÿฅ‡Our Nursery Sport’s Day. ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿผ‍โ™‚๏ธ

We celebrated Derry’s success in the football by wearing red and white to Nursery.๐Ÿ”ดโšช๏ธ

We had a fantastic Nursery trip to the leisure centre. We played in the soft play area. We had our own lunch boxes and we travelled by bus. ๐ŸšŒ

๐Ÿ“š Year 7 came to visit Nursery. They read books to us. Every child had a Year 7 to read to them. It was a lovely morning. ๐Ÿ“š

๐Ÿ“œ Our Graduation Ceremony. ๐Ÿ“œ

๐ŸŽ Mrs Kielt gave out our certificates for completing Nursery. This is Mrs Kielt’s last graduation in Nursery. Thank you for everything that you have done for us. ๐ŸŽ

Dear Parents thank you for all your support and kindness over the past year. It has been a delight for us as a staff. We have enjoyed getting to know your children and to help them bloom.

Mrs McCormick, Mrs McCloskey and Marlena.
