Welcome!  This is our class page. Our teacher is Mrs Mc Alary and our Classroom Assistant is Mrs Kirk. This page will keep you updated on our class news and show you some of the wonderful things we get up to this year.

🌈🍓🍊🍌🍇🌈 Rainbow Fruit Kebabs!! 🌈🍇🍌🍊🍓🌈

We made rainbow fruit kebabs using a selection of delicious fruits. A colourful, healthy snack! They were great fun to make and tasty too 👍🏻 We then used our writing skills to write a set of instructions 'How to make Rainbow Fruit Kebabs'.

Year 3/4 had a fantastic session with Fitness Freddie. They used music and dance as means to get active. Take a look at what we got up to...

🌍 WE ALL HAVE RIGHTS!! - Rights Respecting in Year 3/4 🌍

We have been learning all about he UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. We looked at how all children are entitled to the same rights and looked at what those rights are. We also discussed the difference between NEEDS and WANTS. We looked closely at the NEEDS and how these are linked with the Rights of the Child Articles. #rightsrespectingschool #unicef #uncrc

📝📚 Punctuation Pros in Primary 3/4 📚📝

We have been learning how to use punctuation marks correctly in our sentences. Our 'Kung Fu' Punctuation exercises help us to remember the different punctuation marks we use in our writing and they're lots of fun too!

❄️🌍 Polar Explorer Topic Work 🌍❄️

We have been busy learning all about the Polar Regions through our World Around Us Topic 'Polar Explorer'. We have loved exploring the Arctic and Antarctica and the discovering all they have to offer. Look at how busy we are during our ABL tasks!

Well done to the Accelerated Reading prize winners for this half-term. Our reading continues to improve in Year 4 as a result of the AR programme. Keep up the good work! 👍🏻 #welovetoread #readtosuceed 

📚 World Book Day 2018 📚

We celebrated World Book Day on Thursday 1st March. Many of the children in Year 3/4 created book characters from potatoes and we decorated our classroom door to look like the cover of 'The Twits', one of our favourite books. #welovetoread 

👏⛹🏻 Visit from Cancer Focus NI ⛹🏻👏

Cancer Focus NI visited St. Columba's to demonstrate ways of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Our Year 3 children took part in the 'Fit Factor' workshop to learn about the importance of exercise to keep fit and healthy. The Year 4 pupils participated in the 'Food Detectives' workshop. They looked at fresh and processed foods and the hidden salt, sugar and fat in many foods we enjoy.

💻👍Safer Internet Day👍💻

It was Safer Internet Day on Tuesday 6th February. Our Year 3 pupils took part in 'Walking Debate'. They listened to different scenarios and walked to the emoji that best suited how they would feel in these situations. The pupils participated enthusiastically and were able to justify their choice with good reasoning. Our Year 4 pupils looked at how we are connected. They created a 'Web of Connections' using wool to demonstrate this. They looked at online connections and ways we communicate with others using the internet. We all designed posters on how 'Stay Safe Online'. 💻📲🌍

👵🏼👨🏼🎶 Grandparents' Day 2018 🎶👨🏼👵🏼

We celebrated Grandparents' Day during Catholic Schools Week. Each class performed on stage during an assembly. It was a lovely morning and a great way to show all our Grandparents how much they mean to us.

We used our artistic skills to create beautiful portraits of our Grandparents to celebrate Grandparents' Day. They are amazing. We are a talented bunch!

🎄🎅🏻⛄️ Christmas is Coming! ⛄️🎅🏻🎄

Year 3/4 have been busy working hard on their Christmas ABL activities in preparation for Santa's arrival. The countdown to Christmas is on #christmastime #tistheseason #hohoho 

🤗🎬Cinema Fun!🎬🤗

The children in Year 3 and 4 travelled to Movie House in Maghera for a private screening of 'The Star'. 🌟 It was a thoroughly enjoyable day out as we watched the Christmas Story on the big screen. 

🍪🍴WW2 Baking 🍴🍪

We joined Miss Coyle's Year 4/5 class to bake some 'Carrot Cookies'. We used a WW2 recipe and only foods available in Britain during the War. The children weren't too keen on adding carrot to the bowl but were all in agreement that the cookies turned out very tasty in the end! #blastfromthepast #rationingrecipes 

🤗 Anti-bullying Week 2017 🤗

We took part in lots of creative activities to celebrate Anti-bullying week. We created anti-bullying comic strips and decorated our 'Helping Hands'- these hands remind us who we can talk to if we are worried. The theme this year was 'All different, all equal'. In St. Columba's we recognise our differences but accept that all children are equal and therefore have the right to be treated fairly. #standuptobullying #alldifferentallequal 

🌍♻️👏 Eco-code Competition 👏♻️🌍

Well done to the class winners in the Eco-code competition, especially to our Year 4 winner Naomi. Such creativity and artistic flair!!

We loved dressing up in our spooktacular costumes for Halloween. Everyone looked fabulously scary!!! Using the 'Greenscreen' App we were able to take a trip to some equally spooky places too! 🕸

⏲✖️📝➖ Maths Week ➖📝✖️⏲

The pupils from Nursery to Year 7 focused on Mathematics through the medium of Art this week. In Year 3/4 we concentrated on 'Symmetry Art'. We made symmetrical shape pictures using logic blocks. On the iPads we played the 'Symmetry 2 App' to create digital pictures. Didn't they turn out great? #mathsweek2017 #mathsart

Year 3/4 used their coding skills to explore the 'Scratch Jr' app on the IPads during Code Week. They were able to input a series of instructions to make their sprite move and talk. #codeweek2017 #scratchjr

🇪🇸🇵🇱🇮🇪European Languages Day🇮🇪🇵🇱🇪🇸

We celebrated European Languages Day in Year 3/4 on 26th September. We spoke using Spanish, Polish, Irish and English in our class. Mrs O'Hagan taught us some Polish words and shared lots of interesting facts about life in Poland. We counted to ten in Spanish with some help from Señora Kielt. 

We can count to 10 in Spanish! Do you like our cool dances moves?💃

📚 Library Visit 📚

The Year 4 pupils in our class visited Kilrea Library. They discovered lots of new information about the library and had a chance to browse the shelves. They then listened to Jean the Librarian read a story. It was a very enjoyable morning. Thanks to Anne and Jean for all their help. Hopefully we will be back in to borrow some books again soon.

🔴⚪️ Derry Day 🔴⚪️

We celebrated 'Derry Day' in Year 4 by wearing our county colours to school. We enjoyed reading the story 'Bernie Wins the Match', the first GAA storybook and look forward to Derry's next big day in Croke Park..Doire Abù!

📚📝 Roald Dahl Day!📝📚

It was Roald Dahl Day on Wednesday 13th Sepetember. To celebrate we listened to the story of 'The Enormous Crocodile', one of Roald Dahl's famous children's books. We then completed character descriptions and created a Jungle collage of illustrations...we may have a future Quentin Blake on our hands!
